What Industrial Engineer does

Industrial engineers deal with multifaceted systems and they are expected to be able to optimize them for more effective running. Additionally, they need to understand industrial components and processes involved in order to be able to function and contribute. Hence, all industrial engineers needs to be aware of the existing EA standards and utilize them accordingly.

Furthermore, Industrial Engineers have particular job responsibilities, which distinguish them from other engineering posts and which are analyzed to measure their work outcomes. These include:  the use of work force allocated, the layout of the facility and operational data, and the cost of production and the capacity of the equipment used. Apart from this, a qualified engineer investigates and reviews the current operational processes and verifies the established practices. If they are not in order the engineer is to recommend improvements accordingly in order to increase efficiency of operations for the optimal results.

The indicated Skill Level for Industrial Engineer is holding a bachelor degree or higher qualification. Depending on the occupying position the employer may ask for relevant experience and/or on-the-job training, in order to be able to perform the specific tasks needed.

In addition, in order to obtain a positive skills assessment from Engineers Australia, applying Industrial Engineers may need to submit a Competency Demonstration Report (CDR).

The CDR application process requires the engineer to demonstrate his industrial engineer skills and prepare the CDR documents with all essential information pertaining to his competencies. Therefore, the preparation of this report is best done under supervision, especially if the client has no experience in technical writing, and to avoid rejection and additional costs with reapplication.
