IEng Registration

IEng Registration

Why should you do the IEng Registration? By becoming an Incorporated Engineer (IEng) you will demonstrate your competencies and credentials as verified. You will also improve your career prospects and have a higher earning potential, as well as achieve an international recognition.

IENg Registration regulatory body is The Engineering Council and it bases your professional registration on displaying your competences and commitment. This is done by inserting the competence and commitment requirements compulsory for each specific service: Engineering Technician (EngTech), Incorporated Engineer (IEng) (see link: https://www.engc.org.uk/professional-registration/the-professional-titles/incorporated-engineer/), or Chartered Engineer (CEng).

Hence, the IEng Registration competence and commitment standards are assessed against the Engineering Council’s UK-SPEC requirements and you will be asked to prepare and send evidence of experience within your application.

How to make the IEng Registration

All engineers who can showcase their competence and commitment to perform professional work according to the necessary standards can apply. All applying engineers have to do so via one of the professional engineering institutions licensed by the Engineering Council. Those instances will provide further consultation about the process and a list of institutions can be found at: https://www.engc.org.uk/peis.

Requirement standards for the IEng Registration, before others, include maintenance and managing of applications of recent developing technologies. The applying engineers should also be able to take on engineering design, development, manufacture, construction and operation.
In order to successfully achieve the title the Incorporated Engineers must be adept to present their skills through three aspects: their education, training and experience. The application itself needs to illustrate these competences and commitment standards for the respective IEng Registration.

Education – The usual way of representing the required knowledge and competencies is via formal education. However, you may find other ways of doing that as well. For that you should consult the Engineering Council’s website (https://www.engc.org.uk/courses), for searchable databases of accredited programmes.
Professional development – can be used for presenting your developing competence. This may be signified through an industrial placement during a higher education course, via a Higher Apprenticeship scheme or alongside part-time study.
