Many of applicants through CDR path wonder if they could possibly apply as Engineering Manager instead of applying as Professional Engineers. The answer is yes but you need the right experience for this.
What experience do you need to apply as Engineering Manager?
According to Engineers Australia (EA) MSA booklet you need a minimum of 2 years at Engineers Manager position following 5 years of experience at Professional Engineer level.

Please note that Project Manager / Project Engineer are not considered to be an Engineering Manager Occupational Category. Eng. Manager role is much wider and requires a higher level of experience.
If you don’t know if you are qualify to apply as Engineering Manager, please read page 48 of the MSA booklet and judge if you demonstrate majority of the indicators listed there.
If you decide to apply as an Engineering Manager you will need to enclose the following documents with your application:
- Letters of reference and organisational charts must be provided. Should provide the Official Organisational Chart approved by the person he or she reports to in the organisation
- Official duty statement approved by authorised person in the organisation
- Company profile of the whole organisation, including details of the size and business activities of the organisation being managed
- Detailed employment documentary evidence for the last ten years
- Documentary evidence of your appointment as an Engineering Manager (performance reviews, letters of offers and promotion letters)
- Historical career profile showing you career progression within the organisation
- Details of the formal management training undertaken
- Remuneration for the last three years
