Industrial Engineer CDR Example: Mid Level (Quality and Paint Shop Capacity)
Industrial Engineer · 4+ years
About this CDR
Three Career Episodes from a production engineer: reducing cutting defects at a global flexible packaging manufacturer, developing a system to set the cab suspension level valve and remove end-of-line rework at a truck plant, and increasing truck paint shop capacity from 4 towards 7 cabs per day. This CDR was assessed and approved by Engineers Australia under the Professional Engineer (PE) competency standard.
How to use this CDR
Use this CDR as a guide to the structure, technical detail and writing style that Engineers Australia assessors accept, then write your own Career Episodes about your own projects, in your own words. This CDR was written entirely by a human writer, with no AI tools used at any stage.

Cutting Defect Reduction in Flexible Packaging
As Production Engineer at a global flexible packaging manufacturer, led a PDCA project on the cutting process. Used Pareto charts, fishbone diagrams, Five Whys and FMEA to find the root causes of defects, put corrective actions in place and reduced customer complaints and costs.
Cab Suspension Level Valve Tool to Remove Rework
Developed a system to set the cab suspension level valve within tolerance at a truck manufacturing plant. Ran Gemba walks and Five Whys analysis, modelled the problem and the design in Creo View and worked with engineering teams in other countries to remove rework at the end of the line.
Paint Shop Capacity Increase from 4 to 7 Cabs per Day
Leading improvements in a new truck paint shop. Calculated takt time, balanced operator tasks with Avix, mapped the value stream, tracked OEE and used Kaizen and 5S to work towards the target of 7 cabs per day.
Summary Statement
Maps all 16 Professional Engineer competency elements (PE1.1 to PE3.6) to the exact paragraphs in the three Career Episodes where it is demonstrated, so the assessor can check each element quickly.
Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
A list of the professional development completed since graduation, such as courses, training, conferences, seminars and self-study, set out in the format Engineers Australia asks for.
