Electronics Engineer CDR Example: Mid Level (RF Design)
Electronics Engineer · 4+ years experience
About this CDR
Three Career Episodes from an RF and microwave design engineer: a miniaturised broadside-coupled resonator filter developed during Masters research, RF and antenna design services for Bluetooth and Wi-Fi audio products at an electronics manufacturer, and a VCO and frequency generation unit for a UHF CB radio. This CDR was assessed and approved by Engineers Australia under the Professional Engineer (PE) competency standard.
How to use this CDR
Use this CDR as a guide to the structure, technical detail and writing style that Engineers Australia assessors accept, then write your own Career Episodes about your own projects, in your own words. This CDR was written entirely by a human writer, with no AI tools used at any stage.

Miniaturised Split Ring Resonator Filter (Masters Research)
Researched and designed a compact broadside-coupled split ring resonator loaded with a discrete capacitor, then built a three-element bandpass filter on a six-layer low-loss PCB. Modelled the structures in CST Microwave Studio, designed the board in Altium CircuitMaker, measured the prototypes on a Keysight vector network analyser and presented the results in an IEEE conference paper.
RF and Antenna Design for Wireless Audio Products
Delivered RF and antenna design, simulation and measurement services for Bluetooth and Wi-Fi audio products as a Staff Electronics Design Engineer. Simulated dual-band 2.4 and 5 GHz antennas in Ansys HFSS and CST, laid out antenna PCBs in Cadence Allegro, measured return loss and isolation, and set up an antenna test chamber for radiated measurements.
VCO and Frequency Generation Unit for a UHF CB Radio
Designed the frequency generation unit for a UHF CB radio as a Senior RF Design Engineer. Built the VCO and fractional-N synthesiser around a TI LMX PLL, simulated it in Keysight ADS and LTspice, laid out the hardware in Altium Designer, reduced phase detector spurs with better isolation and verified compliance with AS/NZS 4365.
Summary Statement
Maps all 16 Professional Engineer competency elements (PE1.1 to PE3.6) to the exact paragraphs in the three Career Episodes where it is demonstrated, so the assessor can check each element quickly.
Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
A list of the professional development completed since graduation, such as courses, training, conferences, seminars and self-study, set out in the format Engineers Australia asks for.
