Electronics Engineer CDR Example: Senior Level (Building Automation)
Electronics Engineer · 7+ years experience
About this CDR
Three Career Episodes from an electronics engineer in building automation: an integrated building management system for a 20-storey hotel, hospital and retail building, a chiller management system designed to guarantee 0.58 kW/RT plant efficiency, and an undergraduate electrical impedance tomography imaging project. This CDR was assessed and approved by Engineers Australia under the Professional Engineer (PE) competency standard.
How to use this CDR
Use this CDR as a guide to the structure, technical detail and writing style that Engineers Australia assessors accept, then write your own Career Episodes about your own projects, in your own words. This CDR was written entirely by a human writer, with no AI tools used at any stage.

Integrated Building Management System for a Mixed-Use Building
Designed the BMS architecture, graphical interface and DDC firmware for the air conditioning and ventilation systems of a 20-storey hotel, hospital and retail building. Integrated third-party systems over BACnet, Modbus and OPC, segmented the network with VLANs and designed the SQL Server historical database for the BMS and energy management system.
Chiller Management System with Guaranteed Efficiency
Designed and built a chiller management system to guarantee 0.58 kW/RT for a 10-storey institutional building. Developed chiller sequencing and cut-in and cut-out logic on an embedded controller, calculated plant efficiency and heat balance, fixed sensor grounding errors and sent verified energy data to the authority cloud platform through a REST API.
Electrical Impedance Tomography Imaging (University Project)
Final-year project to build a low-cost, non-invasive imaging system based on electrical impedance tomography. Modelled the skin as an electrical circuit in MATLAB, designed multiplexer and amplifier circuits in Altium, automated measurements with an Atmega microcontroller and reconstructed images through a MATLAB interface.
Summary Statement
Maps all 16 Professional Engineer competency elements (PE1.1 to PE3.6) to the exact paragraphs in the three Career Episodes where it is demonstrated, so the assessor can check each element quickly.
Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
A list of the professional development completed since graduation, such as courses, training, conferences, seminars and self-study, set out in the format Engineers Australia asks for.
